How To Prepare A Salad Pizza?

Currently, salad pizza is one of the most striking variants of this meal. At first, it was devised as a healthy alternative, to encourage people to eat in a balanced way and, above all, to avoid seeing vegetables and fast foods in an incompatible way.

The following recipes include some of the most popular exponents of the salad pizza idea. As we will see shortly, some include a particular salad in the topping, while others incorporate vegetables both in the dough and in the sauce. Now, the great advantage of these versions of pizza is that they help us to take advantage of vegetables in different ways, in a very pleasant way.

Classic Salad Pizza

How To Prepare A Salad Pizza?

Ingredients for the dough

  • Olive oil
  • Various cherry tomatoes
  • 1 cup of water (250 ml)
  • 1 medium onion (40 g)
  • 2 ½ cups of flour (300 g)
  • 1 can of fried tomato (300 g)
  • 2 tablespoons of yeast (30 g)
  • 1 small lettuce head
  • Seasonings: salt, black pepper, oregano
  • To taste: pitted black olives, anchovies

Preparation

  1. First of all, we proceed to sift the flour. Next, we place it in a bowl and add the two tablespoons of yeast.
  2. We make a space in the center and pour a drizzle of olive oil. Add a little water (at room temperature) and proceed to mix with the help of a hand mixer. We must get a sufficiently consistent dough to form.
  3. We let the dough rest at room temperature for 40 minutes. To do this, we must place it in a container with a lid.
  4. We preheat the oven to 200 ºC.
  5. We take a pinch of flour and sprinkle our hands to proceed to knead the dough. We must carry out this procedure until we achieve some flexibility. We can also help each other with a rolling pin.
  6. We grease a tray lightly with a little olive oil and place the pizza dough there. Next, we take it to the oven for approximately 10 or 15 minutes.
  7. Peel and cut the onion into rings. We booked.
  8. Once the 15 minutes have elapsed and when the dough is golden brown on both sides, we proceed to spread the tomato sauce with the help of a spoon.
  9. Sprinkle a touch of black pepper, salt and fresh oregano all over the surface. Then, we place the onion rings, olives and anchovies.
  10. We take the pizza to the oven for another 7 or 10 minutes, approximately.
  11. Once ready, we remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool slightly at room temperature for a couple of minutes.
  12. Meanwhile, we chop the cherry tomatoes in half and the lettuce leaves in medium pieces.
  13. We place the cherry tomatoes and lettuce on the pizza and that’s it!

 

Arugula Salad Pizza

Ingredients

  • Olive oil
  • 1 cup of water (250 ml)
  • 2 ½ cups of flour (300 g)
  • 1 can of fried tomato (300 g)
  • 2 tablespoons of yeast (30 g)
  • 5 cups of mozzarella cheese (about 500 g)
  • 1 cup of grated Parmesan cheese (100 g)
  • 1 tray of cured ham or prosciutto (about 150 g)
  • Seasonings: salt, black pepper, fresh parsley
  • Arugula leaves (enough to cover the pizza)
  • Optional: fresh garlic, spinach leaves

Preparation

  1. As in the previous recipe, we must prepare the pizza dough first and let it rest for at least half an hour before starting to knead it.
  2. Once the half hour has elapsed, we knead and shape the base for the pizza.
  3. We preheat the oven to 200 ºC.
  4. We grease a baking tray with a little olive oil and place the dough there. Then we take it to the oven for 12 minutes so that it browns on both sides.
  5. Meanwhile, in a bowl, pour the tomato sauce and proceed to season it. Once ready, we add it to the dough, and we add the cheese on top.
  6. Cut the ham into thin strips and reserve.
  7. We take the pizza to the oven for another 10 minutes so that the cheese melts and the rest of the ingredients settle.
  8. After the indicated time, we extract the pizza and let it rest for a couple of minutes at room temperature before adding the arugula leaves and the ham.

As we have seen, by adding a layer of salad to the pizzas, adding cheese is avoided, thereby reducing the caloric intake. However, this does not mean that you cannot add a certain amount of cheese, but rather that you have to pay attention to the type and quantity. After all, a fatty cheese will not be the best option for many vegetables that we add to our salad pizza.
