As its name implies, degreaser is the ideal product to completely clean grease stains. However, sometimes we are not satisfied with their performance. Are we using it correctly or do we make a mistake that prevents deep cleaning? Is it only good for fat? Let’s find out.
Use degreaser to clean grease stains
When cleaning grease stains from the kitchen table, it is best to remove everything that is on it. In this way, you will be able to clean the entire surface in depth and not just the space that has drips. Once you’ve gotten everything out of the way, keep the following tips in mind:
- Open the window to avoid exposing yourself to the strong smells of cleaning products. In addition, that way, you will ventilate your home.
- You can use cleaning gloves to protect your skin from degreasing products.
- Each cleaning product has its instructions for use. Take two minutes to check them out because they don’t all work the same! The spray distance, the action time and the need or not to rinse will affect the final result.
- Vaporize the degreaser covering a good part of the surface, placing special emphasis on the area with more grease.
- Let the product act before starting to scrub. This will save you time and effort. In cases of greater fat accumulation, the product may need between 10 and 15 minutes.
- Scrub with a sponge to help remove all dirt and grease particles. If the table is made of granite, you can even use an aluminum sponge in the dirtiest areas. Before resorting to this abrasive sponge, make sure it does not damage the material by testing it in a hidden corner.
- Remove dirt with a damp cloth.
- If the product must be rinsed, do not stop doing it and then dry with a clean cloth.
Homemade degreasers
Beyond using a commercial degreaser to fight grease, did you know that you can create a homemade and natural product to do it? We leave you two ideas:
- Mix two heaping tablespoons of baking soda in water and wet the affected area with this solution. For light soiling, you can make a spray liquid. On the contrary, if the fat is very sticky, we recommend adding a little water to the mixture until it forms a paste. Leave on and scrub. Later, rinse and dry. Clever!
- Mix white vinegar with water (1 part vinegar to four parts of water) and clean the greasy area with that mixture. Leave on for a few minutes and then rinse with plenty of water.

Can you use degreaser on the walls?
Using degreaser to clean stains from your walls can be a bad idea. It all depends on the product with which the walls have been painted. Some paints tolerate the abrasive elements of degreaser well, while others will chip or lose all color.
Before cleaning with degreaser, we recommend trying it in a hidden place on the wall, for example behind the sofa or behind the TV table. Wait for the product to dry so you can see if there are any color or texture changes on the wall.
Furniture support stains or wall wax stains can be removed using toothpaste (white, not colored) or anti-dandruff shampoo (white, no color). You just have to moisten a cloth, place a small portion of the product on the wall and rub. As with the degreaser, we advise you to try in a hidden place.
Remove grease from furniture
Many people use degreaser to clean stains on furniture. This can lead to stains that completely ruin them. Think that this cleaning product has abrasives that allow it to dissolve grease, imagine what they can do with wood!
If your furniture has stains that are difficult to remove, we recommend using a dishwasher detergent diluted in water. Lather up and soak a cloth in the mixture. Rub the stain with it and dry quickly to avoid damaging the wood.
