Tips To Overcome Laziness And Be More Active

Lying on the bed or sofa all weekend can be beneficial if we are too tired or need a vacation. However, the problem arises when the desire to sleep or do nothing is greater than any other activity or obligation. How to master laziness?

According to the Dictionary of the Spanish language, laziness is “negligence, asthenia, boredom or carelessness in carrying out activities”. In the Catholic religion it has been considered a capital sin, since it leads to other sins. In addition, it is also considered one of the obstacles to achieving success.

What causes us to be lazy?

Basically, it does not help us to accomplish our daily tasks. Anything we undertake is difficult, takes a lot of effort, or requires additional learning.

Coinciding with a post in Psychology Today , laziness transforms a simple activity into something completely arduous. In other words, it changes our perception of life.

In addition, it causes us to divert attention from what is important, removes the focus on objectives and takes us away from success or personal development.

Steps to tame physical and mental laziness

A lazy person is not one who thinks little, but one who has trouble focusing on something they like.

Someone with physical laziness is not the one who keeps sleeping, but the one who cannot maintain a routine that requires too much movement. If this sounds familiar to you, pay attention to the following tips.

Become aware

The first and foremost thing is to accept that you are lazy. Once that step is completed, it is easier to work to improve it.

If you repeat phrases like “I work so hard that I’m exhausted, I don’t feel like it, I get tired of trying if nothing comes out right” it  means that you are about to be lazy.

It is not a bad thing, but a wake-up call. It would be good if you did an internal analysis to determine why it costs you so much to carry out this or that activity.

Reflect on the origin of the problem. Perhaps you are overloaded with obligations and your body and brain have said enough.

Look for the bright side

Having a sense of humor and “seeing a glass half full” is vital to putting laziness aside. It’s true that sometimes bad news, problems, or a workload take away that urge to get things done. However, nothing and no one should stop you.

Find the nice and even funny side of situations. For example, if you have a lot of work, thank you for being one of that percentage of the population with a job; If you find it difficult to go out to exercise, remember that you are healthy and have the ability to improve yourself, etc.

Change your thoughts

All the negative or demotivating phrases that you say will not help you, quite the opposite. Don’t forget that the mind takes everything very literally. If you repeat over and over again that you are tired or want a break, the body will act accordingly. And you will always be sleepy!

On the other hand, if your thought says something like “even if I’m tired I’ll keep going” you won’t need tons of coffee or energy drinks to have the necessary strength and fulfill everything you have on your agenda.

Practice a hobby

It is easy to feel overwhelmed with the thousands of tasks we do on a daily basis. Many times we lack that dose of joy that fills us the emotional void and helps us feel more energetic no matter how sleepy our eyes close.

How can you beat laziness? Watching television for hours is not the correct answer. How about going for a walk to the park, playing with your children, or planning your vacations in advance?

You can choose to leave the house or not, be alone or in company … the important thing is that you have fun! That will be great for your body and mind.

Get organized well

Laziness can be due to several issues. For example, that you are not entirely organized. Could it be that you demand too much of yourself and you can’t handle everything you’ve imposed on yourself? Or maybe it is because you have too many distractions or take a long time to start working each day?

You can dedicate yourself to finishing everything behind and leaving the last minutes of the work day to talk with your colleagues.

Do not abuse the coffee breaks,  better try to be more efficient in your work. Of course that has many benefits!

Everything is a question of habits. Not only in the office, but also at home. Instead of staying in bed all weekend … Take advantage of a walk and do everything that due to lack of time you cannot do from Monday to Friday!

Rest well

It may seem like a bit of controversial advice … but it is necessary! Yes, because to overcome laziness we must be as rested as possible.

If you get a good night’s sleep, you’ll have less chance of falling asleep in the middle of the day or desperately wanting a bed to lie on as soon as you get home.

Sleep between 7 and 9 hours every night and you will see how you have energy to comply not only with the scheduled activities … but with several additional ones!

Remember to always go to bed at the same time and get up at approximately the same time each day. In no time you will not need an alarm clock.

Finally, we recommend that you analyze what are the benefits of eliminating laziness from your life and that, if necessary, reward yourself every time you do something that has really cost you a lot of work.
